Port Hope's main industry before amalgamation was tourism. This district still manages to have that small-town feel while providing big-city perks and is seen by Superior residents as the place to get away to without actually leaving the city. Port Hope manages to maintain a quiet, relaxed atmosphere and is the site of several spas, bed and breakfasts, and country inns. The Meyers Institute for Mental Health, a private hospital specializing in psychiatric therapy and recovery, is located in Port Hope, as is the Sefton Asylum.
While not officially part of the district, the Mercy Island Penitentiary is located on an island in the Columbia River just off of Port Hope. See the Mercy Island section for details.
